The two factors that lead to die-cutting fluffing, paper quality and molding.

01 Effect of paper quality on die-cutting fluff

As merchants have higher and higher packaging requirements for some high-end products, packaging and printing factories generally choose white cardboard, coated gold, silver cardboard and aluminum-coated cardboard when selecting paper. These papers are divided into virgin paper and recycled paper; the quality of virgin paper is good, the paper fibers are longer, and the paper wool and paper dust generated during die-cutting are less.

The paper fibers of recycled paper are short, and it is easy to produce paper wool and paper dust during die cutting. In particular, the fluffing of recycled coated gold and silver cardboard is more serious, because the PVC film or PET film on the surface brings certain difficulties to die-cutting. However, in order to reduce costs and promote the development of environmental protection of paper products, manufacturers use recycled paper in large quantities. The problem of paper wool and paper dust can only be solved from the aspect of molding like this.

02 Effect of molding on die-cutting fluff

Typically, we take a traditional approach when molding our products. When making a die-cutting plate, select according to the thickness of the paper. For example, to process 0.3mm thick paper, the height of the die-cutting knife is 23.8mm, and the height of the creasing line is 23.8mm-0.3mm=23.5mm. Although the method of selecting the height of the indentation line in this way is correct, it ignores the distance between the indentation lines on the product forming structure.

For example, the distance between the indentation lines of the hard box flip-top cigarette pack is less than 20mm. Because the distance is too small, if the indentation and die-cutting are carried out at the same time, before the printed paper is completely cut, the indentation will cause the paper to generate tension and tear the paper, resulting in paper wool. Therefore, to solve the problem of paper hair, we must start from adjusting the distance between the indentation lines, so that the printed product can reduce the indentation tension or change the order of indentation and die-cutting during die-cutting.
